Dr. Edward McInnis, Lt. (N), MD, CCFP, has built a distinguished career in family and emergency medicine. With ten years of specialization in emergency and trauma care and sixteen years as a family physician, his medical expertise is extensive and diverse. Alongside his professional commitments, he is a dedicated father of four, an athlete, a lieutenant (N) in the Canadian Armed Forces, a Navy reservist, and an active volunteer.

Growing up in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, he was the oldest of four children. A passion marked his early years for sports, particularly hockey, baseball, tennis, and golf. Competing in both hockey and baseball at high levels, including Junior A hockey, he was even evaluated by the Boston Red Sox as a potential pitcher—his love for sports continued into adulthood, when he included weightlifting in his activities.

He developed a strong work ethic early on. At age ten, he began a paper route, and by thirteen, he had his first full-time job at McDonald's.

His educational journey is impressive. He earned a BBA in 1992 from Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. After traveling to the United States, he pursued further education, earning a BSc (Honors) in Biochemistry and Genetics from Dalhousie University in 1997. In 2002, he received an Epidemiology Certification from Dalhousie University, having entered Dalhousie Medical School in 2000 and graduated with a Doctor of Medicine degree in 2004. He completed his internship at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, where he pursued Post Graduate Studies in Emergency and Family Medicine.

Dr. Edward McInnis holds several licenses and certifications, including the Licensure of Medical Council of Canada (MCC), a Sub-Lieutenant rank in the Royal Canadian Navy, and accreditation from the Canadian College of Family Physicians (CCFP). He was later promoted to Lieutenant (N) in the Royal Canadian Navy.

He has received numerous honors and awards, such as the Prince Edward Island Top Medical Student Scholarship, the Burke Certificate for Promise in Family Medicine, and a Special Citation for Meritorious Service in the Canadian Armed Forces. His research contributions include work on the effects of Prolia in Osteoporosis and presentations on "Physicians in the Military."

He has held numerous academic positions, including Associate Professor at Dalhousie University, Senior Post Graduate Clinical Instructor at McMaster University, and Senior Professor and Evaluator at the Canadian Forces School of Physician Assistants in CFB Borden, Ontario.

Dr. Edward McInnis served as a Lieutenant (N) in the Canadian Armed Forces for nine years and remains an active Class B reservist for the Royal Canadian Navy. His roles included medical officer for soldiers, member of the Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART), consultant in bio-terrorism medicine, and liaison officer for the Canadian Armed Forces Physician Assistant Program.

In his clinical career, he worked as an Emergency Physician at McMaster University Hospital for four years before joining the Wasaga/Angus Community Health Center – Family Practice, where he served as Director of Care. In 2010, he joined the Medical Division of the Canadian Armed Forces as a Class B reservist.

Volunteering has always been a significant part of Dr. Edward McInnis's life. During medical school, he volunteered at the Barrington Street Shelter in Halifax, providing medical exams for people experiencing homelessness. He continued similar volunteer work in shelters in Hamilton and Toronto, helping individuals exit the sex trade and ensuring their safety and education. He has also tutored children in group homes.

He is a committed family man with three daughters and one son. He enjoys spending time with his children, supporting their activities, and volunteering as a minor hockey coach and parent helper. He has been involved with the Simcoe Figure Skating Club and his daughter's dance troop.

A practicing Christian, Dr. Edward McInnis attends Mapleview Christian Church weekly with his children, embodying his faith daily. His multifaceted career and personal life reflect his dedication to medicine, family, sports, and community service.
